Just what I was looking for in a summer jacket ...

At last a light-coloured summer jacket! After the demise of my (italian brand we all know) jacket that didn't live up to the hype, I found this very good-looking, high quality item on the RL site.

For someone with my long and emaciated frame it's often impossible to get a good fit in anything, but the Eclipse comes VERY close. It's a very comfortable item.

In the ferocious summers we usually have here in WA the excellent air flow of the mesh along with the light colour and relatively light weight of the jacket should do the trick.

At the "Black Friday" price I paid, the Eclipse was even greater value for money than it is at the usual price. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Flows a lot of air, looks and fits great, but middling protection for a motorcycle jacket

I have a Klim Induction jacket, which I use for touring and faster riding, but I bought this for the commute where I want a lot of airflow and really a lighter jacket that looks better and is less cumbersome than a full motorcycle jacket.

This has been perfect - it looks great, it fits better than any jacket I've had as a taller person, and it flows so much air, even more than my induction. In terms of fit I speak as a taller rider. Usually it seems they don't actually find any taller models to test sizes on, they just take whatever measurements fit an averaged sized person and scale up from there, meaning that for most jackets getting one that fits in length and arms means they end up so impossibly wide around the middle I could smuggle a tyre out the shop under the jacket. Rev'it are much much better at this. Still at little baggier right up at my 195cm, but nowhere near as bad as others.

Overall I like this jacket a lot. I would hold short of recommending it for faster riding or touring however. You can feel as soon as you pick it up it's a lot thinner and lighter than most jackets with smaller and lighter Armour. That of course affects protection. I was unlucky enough to get hit by a car at 50kph after having the jacket for around 3 months. I landed on the tougher sections of the fabric as designed, and at that low speed it held up to the slide. However it was fairly obvious to me had I slid at 90+ I reckon it'd have got through and the fabric was thin enough that I did get some scratches on my arm just from the impression of the road through the jacket.

All in all though I'm happily buying another one to replace it. it does really well in heat, although with our milder covid summer, the highest temp I've had it up to was about 36C.

Quick Review of the Eclipse

Intially purchased just for the stylish look, I got the silver colour and it looks awesome. After wearing the jacket a few rides in, it is light weight and very breathable and comfortable to wear for short and long rides, didn't feel any discomfort around the neck or any other parts of the upper body. For sizing, I have an atheltic build, 5'4 in height and after reading more reviews, they advise you to go up in size so I went 1 size up to a Medium and it fits perfectly.

My only gripe with the jacket is sometimes when zipping up, there is a small inner flap maybe 1.5cm in thickness and runs from the chest to the neck, that flap can stick out and and catch the zip forcing you to re-adjust and zip up all the way. Easy fix was to pull zip away from body and then pull up. Might just be me though...

1 more pocket inside would have been nice, has 2 outer and 1 inner pocket. But other than that the Eclipse jacket fits nicely, has straps to tighten around the biceps and around the hips so it hugs your body.

I would definitely buy this again!
